PRACTICE MAKES PROGRESS:
Three days of asana, energy & fun!
with Mark Nelson
Are there parts of your practice you wish you could improve? Maybe you feel good about balancing poses, but you'd like to work on your back bends. Are tight hips and hamstrings a fact of life you'd like to work on? Or have you always wanted to get upside down in an arm balance, but don't know where to start?
Welcome to Practice Makes Progress! We’ll spend three days moving through a full range of asana and discovering techniques to keep you focused and motivated as you take your new insights back to your daily life.
We’ll explore how to move with stability, mobility and flexibility in all areas of the body:
Stability: Create a firm foundation physically and energetically.
Mobility: Develop fuller range of motion through detailed alignment.
Flexibility: Learn techniques to release tight muscles.
We’ll look at eye-opening ways to direct the energy of our bodies:
Bandhas: Areas of focus within our bodies that allow us to move powerfully.
Vayus: Techniques for directing the energy of our movement.
Koshas: Levels of awareness from outside to inward to guide our awareness.
Part asana workshop, part playful experiment, every person in the group will be able to work at their own level with their own goals in mind. We’ll explore balancing poses, back bends, shoulder openers, inversions, hip openers and hamstring stretches. And all of it will be at your own level.
This is a unique opportunity to try new approaches to your practice in a fun, inspiring, supportive setting. Grab your mat, invite a friend, and see what kind of progress your practice can make!
PRACTICE MAKES PROGRESS:
Friday, October 25
To help you transition from your work week into retreat mode, we’ll gather over a healthy dinner, then move through a slow flow practice into a grounding, restorative yin practice, setting the tone for the weekend.
Saturday, October 26
We'll move from outdoor activities to a flowing practice into a fun, interactive workshop where we'll explore a full range of asana and ways we can approach them no matter where you're at in your yoga practice. In the evening, we'll settle in for deep stretches to wind down the day.
Sunday, October 27
Sunday morning, we'll top off the weekend with a targeted asana practice to expand on Saturday's progress. Then after lunch, you'll have the option of a stroll outside before heading home, revitalized with a fresh, new perspective on your practice.

MOVING WITH FOCUS: In Body and Mind
with Mark Nelson
We often spend more time doing than being. We all understand the need to put our energy out there to keep things going, but there must be a way to create more balance. That's exactly why it's important to take time for ourselves — to move with focus.
For three days this fall, we'll do just that. We'll move our bodies and guide our thoughts in more meaningful ways, creating a balance of doing and being, so we can tap into the vitality of who we really are. Through dynamic, empowering asana, inspiring discussions, restorative yin sessions, and lots of light-hearted group activities, we'll bring mind and body together with renewed energy and a fresh outlook.
This is a chance for you to enjoy being you! We'll take care of the rest: healthy, nourishing food, easy accommodations, lots of time in nature, and even optional spa treatments to top it off. Moving with Focus is a mind and body retreat designed to balance out your busy lifestyle. We hope you'll join us!
A WEEKEND TO MOVE MINDFULLY:
Friday, Date TBD
To begin your retreat experience, we’ll start with a hearty, nourishing dinner, then move through a slow flow practice into a grounding, restorative yin practice, setting the tone for the weekend.
Saturday, Date TBD
We’ll start the day with a mixed-levels vinyasa practice to get your body and mind on the same track. Then in the afternoon, we'll explore the physical and philosophical connections we can make through dynamic yoga and mindfulness practices. There will be options for students with all levels of experience in yoga. Come as you are. Some of our poses will be challenging, some will be easy, all of them will be fun! Saturday evening, after dinner, we'll settle in for more restful yin and restorative yoga to round out the day.
Sunday, Date TBD
Sunday morning, there will be a flowing, extended practice, combining all the movement and focused intentions of the weekend. After lunch, we'll all head home with a renewed sense of balance!

yoga garden retreats in the pocono mountains
A yoga retreat is more than just a weekend getaway. It’s a moment to reconnect with yourself and refuel. With all the demands on our time and energy that daily life brings, taking time for yoga, nature and community are proven ways to reduce stress.
Studies have shown that an active, healthy lifestyle is the best way to counter the effects of stress in our lives. As little as two hours of physical activity a week is enough to balance out our sedentary lifestyles. Additionally, time in nature is proven to lower stress levels. When you combine these with healthy food, new friendships and time to reflect, you have literally created the antidote for our fast-paced, modern life.
A yoga retreat to the Himalayan Institute with The Yoga Garden brings all those elements together for three days of movement, nature and community. We consciously and mindfully craft the flow of the weekend to optimize your well-being. From hearty vegetarian meals to yoga practices for all levels and abilities, and even the option of spa services during your stay, everything about a Yoga Garden retreat is designed to help you feel your best. We hope to see you soon in the Pocono Mountains!
